Often, when life gets very busy we put off looking after ourselves, we do not allow for ‘me’time.  While the reasons are sound, it is important to make ourselves a priority over all other obligations.  Now is the time to break this habit and change.

Life can be busy and there will always be things that need to get done.  Each of us can look at our patterns and remember times when we wanted to do things for ourselves, like go to the gym or take a class, but decided against it due to a lack of time. This translates to an all or nothing approach.

Making time for one’s self is an investment and if you think about the times when you have actually made time for yourself, can you remember regretting that decision?   Probably not. We know we feel better for it, but something prevents us from doing this.

I want you to remember this phrase:  Anything more than nothing is good.

It doesn’t need to be an all or nothing approach.  While you may not have time to go to a class or for a walk, because all  you have is 10 minutes to spare, there are other things you can do for yourself in that time.

I find my job to be quite sedentary, I spend the majority of my time sitting down talking with clients; I want to ensure that I look after my body/posture and keep active.  I sometimes get frustrated when I don’t have the time to go for a walk or run and find that I end up doing nothing.  I forget that I can do 10-15 minutes of yoga and get the physical and mental benefits from that activity.

Just taking the odd 10 minutes for you can be extremely beneficial and anything more than nothing is good.

In 10 minutes you could:

  • listen to one of the hypnosis mp3’s
  • take 3-5 minutes of deep breathing and transport yourself to a nice place (it’s a form of self-hypnosis)
  • close your eyes and visualise your body doing what you want it to do
  • take a stroll round the block and clear your mind of thoughts, be in the present moment and notice sounds, nature, the fresh air, colours
  • phone a good friend
  • book a hair appointment or massage
  • take a power-nap/snooze
  • read something you enjoy
